“Mr Celik listens to me, takes me seriously, and above all, he believes in me when I tell him about recurring problems.”
GERMAN AUDIOLOGIST OF THE YEAR 2017 IS ANNOUNCED
A dedicated audiologist has fought off stiff competition to take home the most coveted award in his field.
Haluk Celik, Audiologist at Hörgeräte Feudenheim, has been announced as the 2017 German Audiologist of the Year.
The competition is organised by leading hearing aid battery manufacturer Rayovac, a division of Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc., who this year welcomed a new sponsor, The European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH), on board, joining longstanding partners Audio Infos, and the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (EHIMA). The competition relies on nominations from patients who have experienced exceptional care from their audiologist.
Celebrating a decade of industry excellence, a panel of independent hearing care professionals came together over the summer to judge the high volume of German entries, to determine who deserved to be crowned as the winner.
Haluk was nominated by Tahani, who, in her entry, described how he had gone out of his way to listen, ask questions and explain things. She also described him as helpful, a creative-thinker and someone who went above and beyond to find a solution to her problems.
Tahani was born hard of hearing in 1968 and wasn’t fitted with hearing aids until 1973. Her hearing aids started to deteriorate in 1998 and she had seen countless hearing technicians with no success, until she met Haluk Celik. Thanks to his help and support, Tahani now has ‘normal’ hearing and describes this as something she “will be more than grateful to him for my entire life.”
In her heart-warming nomination for Haluk, Tahani said: “A good hearing technician brings trust, active listening, asking questions, willingness to explain things, is solution-oriented, helpful, a creative thinker and has the ability to help when a patient is stuck. Mr Celik possesses all of these characteristics, but above all he distinguishes himself through his ability to really listen. Visiting Mr Celik has been a success every time.
“Mr Celik wants to help, and does everything in his power to do so. This impressed me so much that I stayed with him and didn’t want to let anybody else near my ears, apart from him.”
Lidia Smolarek-Best, Vice President from EFHOH, said: “We are thrilled to be part of a competition that brings so many professionals from the industry together to recognise their life-changing accomplishments. There are some absolutely terrific audiologists out there, demonstrating that care goes well beyond the consulting room.”
Paula Brinson-Pyke, Marketing Director at Rayovac, said: “The award is not only an accolade in its own right but plays a key role in supporting the practices of winning audiologists around Europe.
“With the support of our sponsors, we are honoured to once again be able to celebrate the achievements of hardworking and dedicated hearing care professionals. In our 10th anniversary special year, we’ve received an incredible number of entries to the competition showcasing the high standard of work taking place across Europe.”
Judging is now underway to decide which of the winners from each of the participating countries will go on to win the coveted title of European Audiologist of the Year. The winner will receive a cash prize along with a certificate, which will be presented at the annual Evening of Excellence during the EUHA event in Germany this October.
